In the Russian city of Ivanovo, on March 15, a jury found Anatoly Grudistov guilty of premeditated murder of an Azerbaijani citizen, but deserving of leniency, the Ivanovskiye Novosti newspaper writes.
The publication reminds that the re-examination of the criminal case against Grudistov began on February 25. The shooting at the Rocco nightclub took place on July 28, 2019. Grudistov shot a young citizen of Azerbaijan. The prosecution insisted that he be convicted under Article 105 Part 1 and sentenced to 9 years and 10 months in prison. The defense insisted on causing death by negligence (Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), saying that the shot was accidental.
On July 8, 2020, the Leninsky District Court, by a jury verdict, sentenced 35-year-old Grudistov to one and a half years of restriction of freedom and released him from punishment, counting the year spent in the pre-trial detention center. The defense still managed to convince the jury that Grudistov committed the murder by negligence.
The jury has now changed the article to a heavier one. A new verdict will soon be passed on to Grudistov’s court.
