Ilham Aliyev told Charles Michel about battles in Lachina

The Chairman of the European Council Charles Michelle called the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the press service of the head of the Azerbaijani state reports.

According to the message, during a telephone conversation, Charles Michelle expressed concern in connection with the tension in the region. He emphasized that in accordance with the Brussels peaceful agenda, the European Union will continue efforts to ensure sustainable peace and stability in the region.

President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Armenia committed another military provocation in the territory of Azerbaijan, where Russian peacekeeping forces were temporarily deployed, as a result of which the Azerbaijani soldier died. The head of state, emphasizing that the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan stopped this provocation, took the necessary response measures, noted that all responsibility for the tension falls on Armenia.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that contrary to the provisions of the statement of November 10, 2020, Armenia did not withdraw its troops deployed in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. Also noting that illegal Armenian armed formations continue to remain in the Azerbaijani territories, the head of state said that Armenia has not fulfilled its obligations based on a statement of November 10 for almost two years.

President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that the armed forces of Armenia and elements of illegal Armenian military units should be withdrawn from the Azerbaijani lands.

The head of state also emphasized that the route of the new alternative Lachinsky corridor of the road is determined in accordance with the provisions of a tripartite statement, the construction of this road by Azerbaijan is nearing completion. After completion of work, Russian peacekeeping forces will be deployed there.

During a telephone conversation, issues related to the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union were also discussed.
