The site of the Deutsche Welle media company since Thursday evening, June 30, has been blocked in Turkey. The court was made by the court in Ankara, the representative of the Board of the Supreme Council of Turkey on Radio and Television (RTük) explained. We are talking about Internet pages in all 32 broadcast languages, indicated by Deutsche Welle.
In addition to DW, the lock also affected the radio station “Voice of America”.
A few months ago, RTük demanded that foreign broadcasters apply for a license for Internet broadcasting. Deutsche Welle and the Voice of America announced that they would not apply for licenses in Turkey. The requirement of the Turkish side is based on the legal norm, which entered into force in 2019. In the same year, DW in accordance with Turkey’s legislation opened its representative office in the country.
