5th presidential sailing regatta starts in Turkey

In the area of ​​Bodrum of the South-Western Turkish province of Mugla, the 5th International Presidential Sailing Regatta starts.

The competition will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the administration of Mugly. The general sponsor of the competition is DHL Express. The regatta is organized by the Istanbul club of sea races on yachts during the coordination of the Turkish sailing federation.

More than 300 athletes from 26 teams and 16 countries will take part in the competition.

Governor of Mugly Idris Akbiyik, in an interview with an anadola correspondent, recalled that Bodrum is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey.

He noted that within the framework of racing, athletes will have to overcome about 250 miles.

According to the interlocutor of the agency, Mugla, thanks to his climate and infrastructure, became the center of not only cultural, but also sports tourism. Akbiyik added that the region is particularly popular among lovers of water sports.

The head of the Istanbul Round Club on Yachts Ekrey Yemlihaglu emphasized a high level of participation in the regatta.

According to him, one among the goals of the organizers of the races is to promote the further development of tourism in Mugl. “In our country, all the conditions for conducting international sea races are created. This is not only the geographical beauty of Turkey, but also the developed infrastructure and highly qualified personnel,” he said.

Yemlihagolu noted that sailing is gaining more and more popularity around the world.

The ceremony of presenting awards to the winners of the regatta will take place on May 25 in Bodrum.
