About inaccuracies in statement of Consulate of Iran in Nakhchivan

A few days ago, the Consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic has spread a statement on the extradition of the two prisoners – Iranian citizens who left the penitentiary institution of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

One of the detainees was found guilty of storing drugs, the other – in the illegal border crossing.

APA News Agency conducted an investigation in connection with the sentences in Azerbaijan citizens of Iran and received comments in the relevant government departments.

As a result of the investigation, the Agency has established inaccuracies in a widespread Iranian party. The question is that the legal mechanism of the extradition of convicts between Azerbaijan and Iran is regulated by an interstate agreement. And the persons mentioned by the Consulate of Iran in Nakhchivan, do not belong to this category.

In the penitentiary institutions of Azerbaijan, convicts from different states are contained, however, the overwhelming majority of prisoners are Iranian citizens. An impartial for Tehran Statistics says that annually in Azerbaijan are being arrested and condemned about 200 Iranian citizens, the absolute majority of which are shipped by drugs. Thus, Iranian citizens with connivance or organized support of state institutions of the Islamic Republic are actively involved in the implementation of the transit of narcotraphics, as well as the further sale of narcotic substances in Azerbaijan. The victims of an organized Iranian network become Azerbaijani youth and a vulnerable part of the population, which contributes to the criminalization of Azerbaijani society. However, despite the systematic and ominous role of Iranian citizens in structuring a criminal network in Azerbaijan, the official Baku remains true to its obligations on the basis of an interstate agreement on the issuance of convicts and periodically extradites persons who are in the formations of the organization of drug trafficking.

According to the information of the State Affairs, over 300 convicts over the past 10 years, Iranian citizens were extracted for serving the remaining part of the punishment in the neighboring country. And about 100 convicts of Iranians were pardoned by the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan and were released on parole. Paradoxically, but some time some of these criminals again tried to penetrate Azerbaijan in order to spread narcotic products.

Extradition into the Iran of the two prisoners mentioned in the statement of the Iranian diplomatic department was only a continuation of the humanistic policy of the Azerbaijani government …
