Afghan military pilots fled to Uzbekistan

Pilots of the Armed Forces of Afghanistan, along with families fled to Uzbekistan. Some of them from there are redirected to the American base in Doha (Qatar), reports Wall Street Journal with reference to sources.

“The presence of pilots, crews and members of their families in Uzbekistan – just about 585 people – became a problem for the Government of Uzbekistan from the moment of their arrival,” noted in the publication, explaining that the authorities of Uzbekistan supported relations with the Taliban for many years.

The Taliban movement, in turn, criticized the decision made, indicating that these pilots are “needed by their country”, which only began to recover.

It is also emphasized that the decision to translate them to the American base was adopted with the support of the members of the US Congress. At the same time, the fate of 46 aircraft, located at the termez aerodrome in Uzbekistan near the border with Afghanistan, including Black Hawk and PC-12 scouts, as well as Soviet Mi-17.
