Africa: revealed another strain of Covid-19

In Africa, a new version of SARS-COV-2 coronaivirus has been revealed, which can carry up to 40 mutations. This was announced by the head of the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) John Nkengassong at a press conference in Johannesburg.

According to him, the new version was first recorded from the citizens of Tanzania, who came to Angola. The option is still being studied in one of the laboratories in the Republic of South Africa (South Africa), but already “gives a reason for concern,” since there is no data on efficiency against it already developed by vaccines, said the head of Africa CDC, the Ukrainian edition of the correspondent.net reports.

NKengassong also indicated that Tanzania, from where, in all likelihood, began the dissemination of a new version, from the middle of last year does not provide data on the incidence of COVID-19. The restrictive measures to fight the pandemic were introduced in Tanzania later than in many other countries, and were not quite rigid, continued the chapter of Africa CDC.
