After coup, military in Myanmar tried to withdraw $ 1 billion from United States

The military, who carried out a coup in Myanmar, tried to withdraw a billion dollars from the country’s account in an American bank. This was reported by Reuters.

According to the report, the transfer of funds from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York on behalf of the Central Bank of Myanmar was attempted on February 4. However, a bank in the United States stopped the operation.

The transaction was reportedly attempted after the Myanmar military appointed a new central bank governor.

According to the agency, it was this situation that became the reason for US President Joe Biden’s approval of sanctions against persons involved in the coup in Myanmar and the blocking of government accounts in the United States.
