Aliyev: transfer of Armenia Irevan was crime

For centuries, our people have been on big sacrifices to protect their rights in order to live on their historical lands. But, despite this, our people in different periods lost their native lands, President Ilham Aliyev said at a meeting with a group of representatives of the intelligentsia from Western Azerbaijan.

“In this sense, the twentieth century brought very large tragedies for our people. One of its first decisions, the newly formed Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918 actually gave Armenia our historical city – Irevan. It was an unforgivable step, it was a betrayal and crime. Everything We know this well, our people should know this. We must never distort our history, ”the head of state emphasized.

noting that in our history there were glorious and, unfortunately, dark pages, Aliyev said: “I have repeatedly expressed my opinion on the creation of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and its short -term activity. I praised the activities of the founders of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. It really was the first republic in the Muslim world on a global scale, although it lasted only two years. However, at the same time we should not forget the dark pages of our history, we should not hide them. Firstly, the historical truth should not be presented in a distorted form . Secondly, this tragic event should be a lesson for all of us. “
