Another 136 residents returned to Azerbaijani city of Shusha

In accordance with the instruction of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the return of former forced immigrants to the city of Shusha continues.

On Tuesday, May 14, a group consisting of families previously temporarily resettled in hostels, sanatoriums, former pioneer camps, unfinished and administrative buildings in various places of the republic, left the Garadagsky district of Baku.

At this stage, 38 families move to the city of Shusha – 136 people.

Thus, today in the city of Shusha there is a permanent residence of 58 families, or 224 people.

The city of Shusha has become one of the important centers of the historical, cultural, socio-political life of Azerbaijan, including a symbol of Islamic civilization.

2022 in Azerbaijan was declared the year of Shushi. In order to support the revival of the cultural life of Shushi, music festivals were held, poetry days, numerous local and international cultural events. The International Organization of Turkic Culture (Türksoy) announced Shushu the cultural capital of the Turkic world for 2023.

On November 8, 2020, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev announced the liberation of Shushi from the Armenian occupation. In the city center, a tricolor flag of Azerbaijan was hoisted.

The city of Shusha was occupied by the Armed Forces of Armenia on May 8, 1992.
