Antique cities will attract up to 1 million tourists per year to Turkish Tekirdag

The North-Western Turkish Province of Tekirdag makes active efforts to the development of tourism.

Archaeological work on the site of ancient cities Herion (Heria sanctuary) and Perintos will allow Tekirdag to turn into one of the popular areas of tourism in Turkey.

In the “Sanctuary of Hera” in the Karaevli area, archaeological excavations have been continuing since the 2000s.

Tekirdag before and after our era was a cradle of different civilizations. During archaeological excavations in the “Sanctuary of Hera, household items, tombs and various artifacts of the times of Thracian civilization were found.

The head of the Culture and Tourism Department of Tekirdag Ahmet Hajioglu told Anadol that archaeological excavations were carried out on the territory of the province.

According to him, the “Sancture of Hera” in 2023-2024 is planned to assign the status “Ruin”.

Hajioglu also recalled excavations in the area of the ancient city of Perintos with the age of 5 thousand years, initiated by the University of Mimar Sinan in the Marmararaeregi region.

According to him, archaeologists have discovered ceramics, fragments of spoons, dishes and animal bones.

Hajioglu noted that Tekirdag attracts tourists thanks to many advantages.

“The largest amphitheater of Thrace began to appear. After the antique city of Herion is assigned the status of” ruins “, and the Basilica of the perinthos will be covered, the city will become one of the most attractive directions of tourism,” he is convinced.

Hajioglu expects that, thanks to ancient cities, at least a million people will visit annually.
