At session of Health Assembly discussed preparations for new pandemics

In accordance with the decision of the 74th World Health Assembly (VAZ) session – the Higher Governing Body of the World Health Organization (WHO), from November 29 to December 1, the second special session of the Health Assembly took place in a virtual format.

The main agenda item at the special session of the VAZ – consideration of the advantages of developing the Convention, Agreement or other WHO International Tool to ensure the readiness for pandemics and the adoption of response measures, taking into account the report of the Working Group of Member States to strengthen WHO’s readiness to emergency situations in Areas of health and response to them.

Azerbaijan’s event was represented by a delegation led by First Deputy Minister of Health, temporarily acting Minister Teymur Musaev.

In his speech, the Acting Minister of Health T. Musaev recalled that resolution “Providing equal, timely, universal access to COVID-19 vaccines at reasonable prices”, nominated on behalf of members of the Non-Aligned Movement on the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan as Chairman of the International Organizations adopted on November 18 in the framework of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly on the third committee of the Assembly. “We welcome the efforts of the Working Group of Member States to improve WHO’s readiness to emergency public health situations and respond to them and support the extension of the implementation of measures in this direction,” Teymur Musaev added.

Following the results of the second special session of VAZ, the WHO member countries adopted an agreement on the creation of an international tool for a more effective prevention of pandemic and combat them.
