Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry on decision of United Nations International Court

The head of the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry press service Aikhan Gadjizade commented on his twitter decision of the United Nations International Court of February 22, 2023 on the application of the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of racial discrimination.

“The International Court has issued a decision on second requests for temporary measures at statements submitted by Azerbaijan and Armenia regarding the application of the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of racial discrimination (decisions are not a decision on the merits of the case).

The court rejected 2 requests from 3 on temporary measures submitted by Armenia regarding the statements “On the organization and support of protests by Azerbaijan” and “immediate restoration and abstinence from violation of natural gas supply …”.

.

In relation to the third request, contrary to the statements of Armenia, the court did not dispose of what the Armenian side wanted: 1) the court excluded the words “freely” and “all” and 2) added two important formulations, such as “before the final decision of the court on this case “and” take all the measures at his disposal “.

Since Azerbaijan never blocked and did not interfere with movement along the Lachin road, but took all measures depending on it to ensure safe traffic along the road, he will continue to do this after the appropriate court order.

The court confirmed its call to Armenia to refrain from any actions that can aggravate or extend the dispute between the two states. According to the Decree of 2021, Armenia is still obliged to take urgent measures to prevent inciting and encouraging racial hatred against Azerbaijanis.

Azerbaijan will still require responsibility from Armenia for the ongoing historical and serious violations of the rights of Azerbaijanis, ”wrote Hajizade.
