Azerbaijan: railway is being built in direction of “Zangezur corridor”

In Azerbaijan, the construction of the railway in the direction of the “Zangezur corridor” continues, which will connect the Western regions of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivanskaya autonomy through the territory of Armenia.

The new route is called upon to become an integral part of the so -called “Middle Corridor”, which runs from China to Central Asia, the Caspian Sea, Caucasus and Turkey in the direction of Europe.

After the end of the Second Karabakh war in accordance with the joint statement of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia dated November 10, 2020, an agreement was reached on the resumption of automobile and railway reports between the east of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivayan autonomy (Azerbaijan).

Following the results of the latest tripartite meeting of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikola Pashinyan (May 25) in Moscow, it was decided to discuss the issue of resuming communications in the South Caucasus at the level of deputy prime ministers.

Azerbaijani Railways State Forests continues to build a section of Goradiz-Agbend from the village of Goradiz Fizulinsky district to the village of Agbend in the border with Armenia Zangilalan district of the republic.

The representative of the construction control department “Azerbaijani railways” Kenan Rzaev told AA that the mines established by the Armenians during the occupation period and the complex terrain caused certain difficulties in construction.

“All difficulties have been eliminated, including through the support of Turkish companies. Work continues with an accelerated pace. Construction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2024,” he said.

Press Secretary of the Azerbaijani railways, Senuber Nazarova said that the largest railway bridge in Azerbaijan will be built on the site of the railway line of Goradiz-Agbend. “The 418 -meter bridge will go down in history as the longest railway bridge of the republic,” he said.

The construction of 43 km of the site in Armenia starts after the agreement is reached between Baku and Yerevan.

At the same time, 158 railway line on the territory of the Nakhchivanskaya autonomy of Azerbaijan will be overhaul. Then it is planned to build 14 km site to the border with Armenia.

Upon completion of the project, a new transport artery will be created between Turkey and Azerbaijan. This route will also become a new transport line for non -stop transportation of goods between Turkey and the Russian Federation.
