Azerbaijani portion of road Goris – Cafe is closed?

blocked by Azerbaijan 21-kilometer plot of Churnuch – Euvazli Road Goris – Cafe. Judging by the photo published in the Armenian media, now concrete blocks are laid on the road and barbed wire are laid.

“Azerbaijani side installed a barbed wire and concrete barriers here. This suggests that neither Armenian cars nor big Iranian trucks do not pass along the road. High-ranking officials of Armenia first assured that we can use this expensive. It turned out to be a lie. Armenian and Azerbaijani border guards are standing on both sides of the road, “says Greparak newspaper.

It should be noted that part of the road Goris – Cafe, passing through Gubadla, was returned under the control of Azerbaijan in December 2020, after the surrender of Armenia in the 44-day war. Armenia was unhindered for some time unhindered by this expensive, but in the summer of 2021, Azerbaijan began to apply customs and border control on a plot passing through its territory. As a result, the trucks following Iran in Armenia and back began to pay customs duties to the Azerbaijani side in accordance with the rules of international transit. In the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, they stated that in just a few months the Azerbaijani side gathered about 1.2 million dollars of taxes from Iranian trucks, following transit on the road Goris – Kafan through Gubadla.

Although Armenia rushed into a hurried order through its territory, in the autumn-winter months the road was largely impassable, often occurred, and heavy cars could not overcome uneven areas of roads, lifts and descents. As a result, part of Iranian trucks still preferred to pass through Azerbaijan. However, the Armenian side prevented this and actually forced drivers to choose an impassable “alternative” path.

Now everything looks like the road is completely closed, and so will continue, at least until the next winter. If there are appeals from Iranian carriers during the winter months, movement may be restored.
