The European Indoor Athletics Championships are nearing completion in Torun, Poland.
Azerbaijan was represented at the Euro by the triple jumper Alexis Copello. In qualifying, he showed a result of 16.84 in the first attempt and secured himself an exit to the final.
And today in the final he flew to 17.04 and became the silver medalist of the European Championship. In the first two attempts, the naturalized Cuban jumped 16.98. The next three attempts were unsuccessful, and only the last sixth approach brought him silver – 17.04. Copello lost only to Portuguese Pedro Pablo Pichardo (17.30). Bronze by Max Hes (17.01).
Note that the 2019 European champion in triple jump Nazim Babaev did not participate in the competition due to injury.
