Baku: trial of killer of famous athlete begins

A preliminary investigation was completed in the criminal case of 22-year-old Samir Shiraliev, accused of the murder of the world champion Zaur Yusifov. According to Haqqin.az, the materials of the criminal case were sent for consideration by the Baku court for serious crimes. The criminal case is considered by judge Ahmed Guliyev.

The preparatory court session is scheduled for July 14.

The incident occurred on March 14 this year at about 21:00 in one of the markets in the Binagadinsky district of Baku. The famous athlete-kikbokser Zaur Yusifov was shot dead from the Winchester brand gun. The Investigative Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case under article 120.1 (intentional murder) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. Based on the preliminary investigation, reasonable suspicions were established that Shiraliev intentionally killed Yusifov on the basis of revenge. He suspected that Yusifov killed his cousin Emin Safarov, nicknamed “Emin 444”.

Recall, on May 9, 2020, 27-year-old Gasan Tagiev inflicted multiple stab wounds to Emin Safarov. The verdict of the Baku court for serious crimes of Tagiev was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
