Belarus will create its own Covid-19 vaccine

Health Minister of Belarus Dmitry Pinevich has no doubts that the country will develop its own vaccine against coronavirus. Reported by Tut.by.

“The vaccine will be developed – we have no doubt about it. But the creation of a domestic vaccine has a number of conditions,” he said. Pinevich explained that we are talking not only about the creation of the drug, but also about industrial production.

It is planned to create a prototype by the fall, and by the end of the year – a pilot batch, the Ministry of Health said. The main work will be carried out on the basis of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center (RSPC) of Epidemiology and Microbiology.

“Research is underway. Soon we will find out how long immunity lasts after illness and after vaccination,” said Vladimir Gorbunov, director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.

Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the country will create its own version of the coronavirus vaccine. According to him, the development of the drug will cost 5 million Belarusian rubles (about 144 million Russian rubles).

Now the country is vaccinated against coronavirus with the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. On February 26, a trial batch of the Russian drug was released in the country. Everyone will be vaccinated with this vaccine, released at a domestic pharmaceutical company, from April.
