The birth rate in France is at the lowest level over the past 80 years.
The National Institute for Statistics and Economic Research of France (INSEE) said that the birth rate in the country in 2022 and the first half of 2023 fell to the lowest level from the end of the Second World War.
According to Insee, in 2022 726 thousand children were born in the country, which is 2.2% less than in 2021, and 13% less than in 2010.

The average age of the mother at the birth of the first child increased from 30.2 years in 2012 to 31.2 years in 2022, and the share of illegitimate births over the same years increased from 57% to 65%.
