Brazilian Amazon’s deforestation in 2023 decreased by 50%

Forest cutting in the Amazon basin decreased by 50 percent by the end of 2023. This was reported by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Climate Changes.

The reduction in forest cutting “confirms the commitment to the Paris Agreement and the leading role of the country in the fight against the change in the climate,” the Brazilian department said.

The department claims that the reduction in the rate of deafness by 50.5 percent from January to November last year is the result of measures taken by the government and institutions led by President Luis Inasiu Lul and Silva.

In addition, it is noted that the rate of reduction in forest cutting prevented the release of 250 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The Brazilian authorities say that about half of the emissions in Brazil falls on the cutting of forests. In turn, Lula da Silva promised to achieve zero deforestation by 2030.

During the reign of Bolsonaru, a record for cutting forests was broken

During the reign of the previous extreme President of Brazil Zhair Bolsonaru, cutting down forests in the Amazon basin reached a record size.

In particular, by 2022, deforestation reached a historical level. In the first six months of 2022 alone, forest reduction amounted to 3,980 square kilometers.

Lula, who took office in January 2023, took measures to eliminate the damage caused by his predecessor, creating a guarded area with an area of 277 thousand hectares last year.
