China: banned singing “ideologically wrong” songs

Chinese authorities in order to strengthen ideological security will make a list of songs with “invalid content”, which will be prohibited from performing in karaoke clubs in the territory of the subway, it is said in the resolution of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism PRC.

According to the decree, measures are introduced “in order to promote the basic socialist values ​​and strengthening national cultural and ideological safety,” RIA Novosti reports.

In particular, they will be prohibited to execute a song that threatens the national unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of China, which violate the basic principles of the Constitution of the country, inciting interethnic distribution and undermining ethnic unity, violating the foundations of China’s religious policy and encouraging cults and superstitions that promote gambling , violence, drugs, as well as obscene behavior, containing insults and slander to others.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the PRC will create a national group of experts responsible for an overview of the karaoke musical content and the creation of a national registry office of karaoke music. The decision will enter into force on October 1.

Karaoke clubs are one of the most popular entertainment in China, they regularly visit representatives of all ages and social groups throughout the country. According to Chinese media, there are more than 50,000 karaoke institutions in the country.
