The chief epidemiologist of the Chinese Center for Control and Prevention of Diseases in Zunyu warned people against touching foreigners the day after the first case of a monkey smallpox was confirmed in China, CNN reports.

“To prevent possible infection with monkey smallpox, it is recommended to avoid touching foreigners,” wrote in his post on the Chinese online platform of Weibo, emphasizing the risk of the spread of the disease as a result of international trips and close contacts.
