Constitutional Council of France will check controversial law on migration

French President Emmanuel Macron appealed to the Constitutional Council regarding the verification of the Constitution of the new Law on Migration, adopted on December 19 in parliament with the support of the ultra -right.

As reported on the website of the Constitutional Council, the corresponding appeal also received from 60 deputies, including the chairman of the National Assembly, Yael Brown-Pive.

Macron said that “the provisions of the law can be implemented only after the Constitutional Council confirms their compliance with the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.”

If the Constitutional Council approves the law, the document will be officially published. Otherwise, the results of the vote in the National Assembly of France will be canceled. The Constitutional Council is also authorized to exclude disputed articles from the text of the law.

The French parliament approved earlier the text of the disputed bill on tightening migration during long debate.

The draft law provides for a temporary residence permit in France of qualified workers. The bill also simplifies the procedure for providing asylum. But a foreigner will be able to get a state allowance only after five years of residence in France. For those who have work, this period will be 3 months.

According to the bill, persons with dual citizenship who have committed crimes against security forces may be devoid of French citizenship.

In accordance with the law complicating the conditions of reunification with families, from foreign students who come to France to study, the key will be charged.

The deposit is intended to cover the expenses for the return of the student in case of a decision on his expulsion from the territory of France.
