The Council of the Federation (Upper Chamber of the Russian Parliament) appointed the elections of the President of Russia on March 17, 2024. The corresponding resolution was adopted at the plenary meeting of the Council.

“The Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation decides to appoint elections of the President of the Russian Federation on March 17, 2024. This Decree enters into force from the date of its official publication,” the document says. The document was supported by 162 Russian senators.

According to the Russian media, at a meeting of the Federation Council, the head of the Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova spoke. According to her, the CEC will consider the possibility of organizing a three -day vote in the upcoming presidential election.

“CEC will consider the draft resolution on voting in the presidential election within three days. For the first time in the history of the new Russia, the presidential election will be held in such a toxic geopolitical atmosphere. The Russian electoral system has a margin of strength for the proper presidential election,” the head of the Central Election Commission said .
