Critical shortcomings of British tanks

The British Challenger 2 tank has a number of critical flaws that cannot be eliminated within the existing platform. This was stated by a military expert, editor-in-chief of Arsenal Otechestvo Viktor Murakhovsky, RIA Novosti reports on Sunday, March 14.

He, in particular, pointed to an outdated standard rifled gun of 120 mm caliber, not effective enough for firing at highly protected targets, which loses to most foreign counterparts. “In fact, it is ineffective against most modern tanks in the frontal projection, where they have maximum protection,” – said the expert.

He also pointed out the problem of a low rate of fire, especially when driving over rough terrain, due to the use of a separate-cap loader and separate ignition tubes that ignite the propellant charge in Challenger-2, which greatly complicates the loader’s work. >

Another drawback of the British vehicle is the outdated fire control system, in which, in particular, there is no target tracking machine usual for modern tanks. “All our modern vehicles have an automatic tracking machine. And the T-14 Armata fire control system not only automatically accompanies targets, it can search and identify them on its own without the participation of the crew,” Murakhovsky said.
