Dangerous foods high in salt

Semi-finished products are considered the most dangerous products in terms of salt content. In a conversation with Sputnik radio, they were named by Andrey Bobrovsky, a nutritionist, associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine of St.

“The trouble is not so much the salt from the salt shaker, as it is easy to control, the main difficulty in the products in the package,” he said.

According to him, manufacturers use salt in large quantities as a preservative and flavor enhancer, although the consumer may not even feel it. Bobrovsky advised citizens to carefully study the amount of salt in the composition. He noted that sometimes such information is not indicated on the packaging, but it can be found in specialized medical publications.

According to WHO recommendations, an adult should consume no more than five grams of salt per day, while many people significantly exceed this norm – the average resident of the country eats about 12 grams per day.

The nutritionist clarified that often exceeding the daily intake of salt increases the risk of cardiovascular and other diseases, such as hypertension. “In this case, it is possible and necessary to reduce salt intake, but it is better to start doing this in advance, when there are no problems yet,” he added.
