Deputy Minister of Foreign Ministry of Turkey: Freedom of expression cannot be abused to spread hatred

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yasin Ekrem, Serim, decisively condemned the increase in cases of burning the Holy Koran: “We urge all authorities to take the necessary measures against these actions and prevent the repetition of such incidents.”

Serim spoke at an emergency meeting of the UN Human Rights Council.

“We decisively condemn the burning of the Holy Koran. This is a clear manifestation of growing religious hatred,” he said.

According to the Turkish diplomat, disrespect for any sacred book is incompatible with tolerance, the social world and the respect of human dignity.

“The freedom of expression of opinion is the cornerstone of society, but it cannot be abused for the spread of hatred. Such actions are unacceptable on the basis of freedom of expression. We urge all authorities to take the necessary measures against the persons who committed these actions. And to prevent the repetition of such incidents. We We urge all countries to support this decision in order to send a clear signal against acts of hatred that threaten not only Muslims, but to all of humanity, ”Srim emphasized.
