Detention in Belarus: KGB said she was preparing a disruption of a referendum

The State Security Committee of Belarus delayed a group of people who, according to the department, planned to disrupt the referendum on editing to the Constitution, reports RBC with reference to the Belarusian state television channel ONT.

In the plot of the TV channel, it is said that people “called on to spoil bulletins, intimidate members of election commissions and threaten them,” they sent them letters on behalf of the police and judges in which direct threats contained. The KGB argues that the detainees received instructions from abroad, their “curators from abroad” are established.

“We know all customers, organizers, performers, coordinators and sponsors of criminal acts. Ultimately, the principle of inevitability of punishment will be implemented in accordance with the current legislation,” said Konstantin Gobyk, Head of the Investigation Department of the KGB. He called the action to break the referendum with a grave crime and manifestation of extremism.

Referendum on making changes to the Constitution of Belarus will be held February 27. In the bulletin there will be only one question: “Do you make changes and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus?”. In the final version, it was proposed to change the preamble and 82 articles of the basic law, eliminate two articles, supplement the text of one chapter about the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly and 11 new articles, resembles RBC. In particular, the amendments provide that the same person will not be able to take the presidency more than two deadlines, while after the expiration of the term of office the head of state will be able to become a lifelong member of the Upper Chamber of Parliament. The Constitution is invited to supplement the article on the inviolability of the president, which will also forbid the former head of the state to be responsible for the actions committed during the implementation of the presidential powers.
