Dr. Vagif Abdullayev assessed epidemiological situation in Azerbaijan

Deputy Director of the Republican Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology (RCGE) of the Ministry of Health Vagif Abdullayev in an interview with Haqqin.az appreciated the epidemiological situation in Azerbaijan, said which rules should be adhered to after adopted as a quarantine regime mitigation measures in the country.

– How do you assess the current epidemiological situation in Azerbaijan?

– throughout May, there is a tendency to stabilize and dynamically reduce the level of COVID-19 infection among the population of Azerbaijan, and the infection is more often registered among people with family and related communication. This gives reason to say that the quarantine mode used in the country gives its fruits, and the current epidemiological situation in the country for COVID-19 can be assessed as stable.

– can the measures taken on the eve of the mitigation of a quarantine regime lead to an increase in the number of infection?

– more than a year, during which the COVID-19 pandemic continues, such a tendency is observed in different countries of the world: mitigating a quarantine regime creates the impression of security and confidence in people, which leads to non-compliance with preventive measures (social distance, proper use of masks, ventilation Enclosed premises, hygiene of the hands, abstaining from participation in mass events), which play a crucial role in preventing the spread of COVID-19, and this can create conditions for re-growth in cases of the disease. However, we hope that our citizens produced during a long quarantine, personal protection skills will allow us to avoid such unwanted consequences.

– What measures should be taken along with a quarantine mitigation?

– During the mitigation of the quarantine regime, people should be even more careful, take all precautions, especially preventive protection measures, which we mentioned above to protect themselves and others from the risks of the virus infection, which still circulates in the environment.

We should not forget that for a complete victory over COVID-19 requires a long time, and the pandemic continues to present a serious threat to the world. It is enough to pay attention to the statistics: in the five months of 2021 there were more cases of infection with coronavirus infection and deaths from this disease than in 2020.

– What is the role of vaccines in reducing the number of infection with coronavirus infection?

– The World Health Organization attaches special importance to the role of vaccination in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. In accordance with the COVID-19 vaccination strategy adopted in our country in the Republic of Azerbaijan at 2021-2022, “a vaccination campaign began on January 18 of this year. Currently, more than two million doses of vaccines are used in Azerbaijan, more than 880 thousand people received the 2nd dose of vaccine, that is, completely vaccinated.
