Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan distributed an appeal on the occasion of Ataturk’s Day celebrated in the country on May 19 and Youth and Sports Feast.
In his message, the head of state emphasized the historical significance of the events on May 19 in 1919, marked by the beginning of the liberation war of the Turkish people, which was headed by the founder of the Turkish Republic of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
The President called this date “The first stone laid down in the foundation for building strong Turkey.”
“This date symbolizes the spark of independence and future aspirations, lit in all corners of our country against the enemy occupation. The nationwide struggle that began in Samsun spread throughout Anatoly, reaching the peak in Amasu, Erzurum, Sivas and, ultimately, in Ankara, ”said the Turkish leader.
Erdogan emphasized the importance of maintaining adherence to the “on May 19”, calling him the “greatest property” of Turkey, which is also necessary to solve the country of modern problems. “Our struggle for the development, growth and expansion of rights and opportunities can continue only if the essence, principles, ideals and goals on May 19 can continue,” the president said.
On May 19, 1919, the founder of the Turkish Republic of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk spoke to youth in the city of Samsun, announcing a mobilization to combat interventionists who captured part of the country’s territory. This appeal laid the foundation for the national liberation war that marked the creation Turkish Republic.
