The European Union (EU) is preparing to completely stop the import of natural gas from Russia by the end of 2027.
The EU Commission published its roadmap on a gradual rejection of energy imports from Russia.
In accordance with it, the EU will stop the import of natural gas and oil from Russia.
Russian nuclear energy will also be gradually discontinued. Thus, the dependence on Russian energy will be discontinued.
EU will take measures to ensure reliable supplies of energy carriers.
The commission will cooperate with member states to ensure a phased and coordinated refusal of importing Russian energy carriers.
EU member countries will develop national plans for the gradual rejection of the import of Russian gas, nuclear energy and oil before the end of this year.
The transparency, tracking and traceability of Russian gas in the EU markets will be increased.
New contracts with Russian gas suppliers for supplying pipelines and liquefied natural gas (LNGs) will be blocked. All existing spinal market agreements will be terminated before the end of 2025. This will lead to a further reduction in Russian gas supplies to the EU.
The EU Commission will submit a legislative proposal to terminate all the remaining imports of Russian gas by the end of 2027.

A proposal for regulation, including measures for the import of enriched uranium from Russia and restrictions on contracts for the supply of uranium, enriched uranium and other nuclear materials supplied from Russia with an agency for the supply of an Eratoma, will be announced next month.
To ensure the supply of medical radioisotopes in the EU, a European initiative for a radioisotopic valley will be created.
In 2021, the EU received 45 % of gas from Russia. Last year, the share of gas supplies from Russia to the EU dropped to 19 percent.
The share of Russia in the import of oil in the EU also decreased from 27 percent in 2022 to 3 percent recently.
The import of Russian coal in the EU was completely prohibited. Operators of Russian -made nuclear reactors in the EU signed contracts for the supply of nuclear fuel with alternative suppliers.
