EU warns mask and threatens to impose sanctions

The European Union warned the billionaire and owner of Twitter Ilona Mask about possible sanctions for blocking journalists. Elon Musk runs the risk of stopping the Red Lines in the EU legislation, which protects the freedom of the media, said the European Commissioner Vera Yurov.

“News on an arbitrary suspension of the work of journalists on Twitter is alarming. The EU Law on digital services requires respect for the freedom of the media and fundamental rights. This is reinforced by our law on freedom of the media. Elon Musk must know about this. There are red lines. And sanctions [ will follow] soon, ”the European Commissioner Vera Yurova wrote on Twitter.

Previously, Twitter blocked reporters from leading American media. Among them are CNN, The Washington Post, The New York Times and MashaBle.

After the threats from the European Commissioner, Musk unlocked reports of journalists. “The people spoke out. Blocking the accounts that reveal my location is now removed,” he wrote on Saturday, December 17, referring to his survey, launched the day before.

Journalists blocked the day after Musk announced new social networks, wrote Washington Post. On Twitter, it was forbidden to publish information about the location of users online.
