European Commission: Europe wants to end dependence on Russian gas by 2027

EU should already reduce the consumption of Russian gas so that by March next year the savings amount to 15% (45 billion cubic meters), said the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Lyain in an interview with the German agency DPA. She called Russia an unreliable gas export partner.

“Our main goal remains complete independence from the supply of Russian gas to Europe no later than 2027,” she said.

EU is going to invest 300 billion euros in projects to save gas and the transition to renewable energy sources. “At the same time, we conclude new agreements with more reliable partners, such as the USA and Norway,” the head of the European Commission said.

Last week, the European Commission announced the plan to reduce gas consumption in the European Union by 15% by the spring of 2023 to reduce both the risk and costs for Europe in the event of an additional violation or complete cessation of Russian gas supply.
