European Parliament was called upon to introduce an oil embargo against Russia without Hungary

The vice-president of the European Parliament Katarina Barley called to decide on the planned oil EU oil against Russia without the participation of Hungary. Deutsche Welle reports that Barley said this in an interview with Deutschlandfunk on Saturday, May 21,

According to her, the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban “leads the EU by the nose.” Barley accused the head of the Hungarian government of using the dispute around the oil embargo for his “political games” to send extra money to his country.

The adoption of the sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia is delayed due to the position of a number of countries that are most dependent on the supply of Russian oil, the German edition recalls. The EU proposed to provide them with a delay to search for new suppliers of raw materials: Prague could launch the embargo from July 2024, and Budapest and Bratislava since 2025. For Hungary, this offer seemed not profitable enough. In exchange for consent to the oil embargo against Russia, proposed by the European Commission, Budapest requires billionths from the EU.
