European Union and Britain completely stopped purchases of Russian coal

In the European Union, from midnight on August 10, a complete ban on the import of Russian coal entered into force. This decision was announced in April as part of the fourth package of sanctions adopted because of the war in Ukraine, according to the official journal of the European Union.

According to the European Commission, the embargo will affect 25% of the total Russian coal exports to 8 billion euros per year. Also, from August 10, Great Britain refused Russian coal.

EU replaces Russian supplies to coal from North America, Australia, Colombia, South Africa and Kazakhstan.

In addition to completely abandoning Russian coal, the EU also plans to partially abandon Russian oil. Corresponding restrictions will begin to operate at the end of the year.
