European Union will help India in fight against outbreak of Covid-19

The European Union activated the Civil Defense Mechanism for the provision of consolidated assistance in India, where in recent days there is an outbreak of coronavirus, a representative of the European Commission reported in Briefing in Brussels, RIA Novosti reports.

“Given the heavy sanitary situation in India, the EU Civil Defense Mechanism was activated. India requested to provide medical oxygen and medicines, such as Remidesivir,” he said.

According to the representative of the EC, Ireland has already proposed 700 oxygen concentrators, France and Germany also announced the intention. “Currently, we discuss the assistance of India through this mechanism with other EU countries. In the coming hours and days we expect to receive additional assistance for India,” he explained.

India Prime Minister Narendra Moi previously stated that a new wave of coronavirus infection “hit the country like a hurricane.” India is in second place in the world by the number of cases of coronavirus. According to the latest data of the Ministry of Health, over 17.3 million cases of COVID-19 are registered in the country. More than 14 million people recovered, died from coronavirus and concomitant diseases of 192 thousand people. In recent days, more than 350 thousand cases of contamination of coronavirus per day are recorded in India.
