Ex-president of Moldova was sent under house arrest

The court in Chisinau on Thursday, May 26, sent Igor Dodon for 30 days under the house arrest of the former President of Moldova. He is accused of corruption, gosmen and betrayal of his homeland. Dodon faces 20 years in prison.

Earlier, the country’s prosecutor Petr Yarmalyuk told reporters that the investigation found evidence confirming the ex-president’s plan to leave the country.

During the searches, law enforcement agencies found tickets for a plane, as well as large amounts of money in foreign currency, which, according to the state prosecutor, confirms this intention.

Recall that the employees of the anti -corruption prosecutor’s office on May 24 detained Dodon for 72 hours. The ex-president, as well as at home at his mother in the village of Sadov, were searches. The next day, the former head of state was charged with passive corruption, illegal enrichment, financing of the party at the expense of the criminal organization and betrayal of the homeland.
