Ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan was sentenced to 14 years in prison

The Pakistani Court sentenced the former Prime Minister of the country, leader of the opposition party “Justice Movement (PTI) of Imran Khan and his wife Bushr Bibi by 14 years in prison.

According to the Pakistani media, Khan was found guilty of concealing and selling gifts that he received during his stay as prime minister.

The court also decided to remove the khan from political activity 10 years before the upcoming general elections, which will take place on February 8th.

On the eve of Imran Khan and the former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Kurayishi were sentenced to 10 years in prison for the “disclosure of state secrets.”

In August 2022, the government of the former Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif appealed to the election commission with a complaint against Imran Khan.

According to Pakistani legislation, prime ministers, ministers, bureaucrats and high-ranking government officials are required to report gifts received from foreign statesmen in the department called Toshahan.

However, the government argues that the gifts presented by the Imran Khan during the reign of the Party “Movement for Justice” was not reported to Toshakhan.

The government claimed that Khan received 52 gifts and sold most of them.

Gifts to the politician received from August 2018 to December 2021, their market value is about 641 thousand dollars, follows from the text of the document.

Imran Khan was detained on August 5, 2023 after the court issued the warrant for his arrest.

The Islamabad court found the ex-head of the Pakistan government guilty of corruption and sentenced to three years in prison. The court also ordered him to pay a fine of 100 thousand rupees.

August 29 of 2023, the court in Pakistan suspended the sentence of a three-year imprisonment against the former Prime Minister of Imran Khan, deciding to release him on bail.

However, on August 30, Judge Abul Hasnat Zulkarnin at the request of the prosecutor’s office extended the term of detention of the khan, who was accused of “disclosing state secrets”.

Kureshi was detained in his house in Islamabad on August 19 and was detained for the same reason.
