Fifth -generation Turkish aircraft is prepared for first flight

The fifth -generation military aircraft MMU is one of the most ambitious technological projects of Turkey, the implementation of which continues with an active pace with the participation of 3 thousand specialists.

The first flight of MMU is planned for the current year.

In an interview with Anadolu, the chief designer of MMU Emre Yaban said that Türk Havacılık Ve Uzay Sanayii (Tusaş) began work on the project in 2006 and today is at the final stage.

According to the designer, earlier thanks to the project of another domestic Hürkuş aircraft, the developers have gained significant experience, in particular, in terms of designing a combat vehicle, stages of work and infrastructure formation. The development of a helicopter – Gökbey and the light attack aircraft Hurjet also became important experience, said Yaban.

He noted that the reactive Hurjet just the other day made his first flight. “As for the MMU, this is essentially a new stage for both Tusaş and Turkey Aircraft Building as a whole. We plan to form a domestic military aviation base in order to fly on domestic aircraft developed by Turkish companies. This is the significance The project of the fifth generation aircraft. 7 prototypes will be developed on the way to serial production. Then the tests of systems, flight and ground testing will begin. We plan to carry out the first deliveries of the aircraft in the Turkish Air Force by 2028, ”Yaban said.

According to him, each new prototype of the aircraft will become the next stage in the field of aviation: the process will be carried out step by step, each prototype will differ from the previous one, taking into account the results of the tests.

At the same time, Yaban noted the short time on the project. “The 2028th year is a very short time, if you focus on foreign analogues. During this period it is necessary to create many prototypes and conduct tests,” said the chief designer.

He also announced that the domestic MMU aircraft would give a surprise on May 1.
