Finland and Sweden can enter NATO this year

Finland and Sweden will become official NATO members by the end of this year, writes Politico with reference to the US ambassador to Finland Douglas Hiki.

“Hiki, who was a sword in April, expressed optimism that by the end of the year there will be 32 members in NATO,” the publication notes.

Only 3 of 30 NATO members remains to ratify the accession of Sweden and Finland to the North Atlantic Alliance, the publication notes.

It is expected that Slovakia will give a green light to enter the countries in NATO. Also, the US Ambassador to Finland, after meeting with his Hungarian colleague, believes that a positive vote will also be held in Hungary.

Hiki believes that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will not want to be the only disagreement, so it will quickly solve the issue of the entry of Finland and Sweden to NATO.
