First woman-coach of Nigeria: thanks to football, I overcame pain of loss

Football relieved the pain of loss in connection with the departure of the spouse. This was reported in an interview with Anadolu was reported by the first female football coach of Nigeria Fatima Dahir.

39-year-old resident of the Nigerian state Kano told how she created a team called “Manya United” and began training football players.

According to the woman, football attracted her attention from childhood, but at that time she had to stay away from this sport, because for girls this was considered a shameful occupation.

“When I began to work as a coach, I faced a huge stream of criticism addressed to my address. Residents of the region, mainly women, consider my family to do the contradictory cultural traditions of the country. People shame me whenever they see me on the football field”, – said to Dahir.

However, contrary to all the unpleasant words said to me, I continue to train, because I found my happiness in football, Dakhir emphasized.

According to the coach, after the loss of her husband, she tried to stay away. “The only thing that brought the joy at that time was the children who played football in my area. I went and followed their game. Sometimes I even bought them balls,” the coach recalls.

Dahir noted that over time she established a strong connection with her children, judged matches and thus attracted attention.

The coach said that the team founded by her has already won three cups and is preparing for the next conquest.

According to the woman, in the future she would like to train a large team.
