Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan has stated peace process with bilateral process between Baku and Yerevan

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jaykhun Bayramov called the peace process and an agreement a bilateral process between Baku and Yerevan.

“If any state wants to make a positive contribution for this – if it is neutral and its agenda is positive – we accept this. In recent years, Russia, the European Union and the USA have made such initiatives,” Bayramov said at a press conference spent on the results of the year.

He noted that the first draft of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia was proposed from Baku. “We understand that the problem has a long history. There are quite a few directions,” the minister said.

Bayramov emphasized that the coordination of each detail will become a very long process.

“Instead, we want to imagine, sign a document that does not cause serious disagreement and forms a database of relations on the basis of the principle of international universality and reciprocity of both parties,” the minister said, adding that the path to a peace agreement is open, and its achievement seems to be quite real.

According to him, the issue of villages under occupation is discussed at all meetings with Armenia.

“Even between states that do not have a serious territorial conflict, the issue of delimitation can take many years. If we are interested in the speedy conclusion of a peace agreement, then it would be wrong to connect these two processes with each other,” the Foreign Minister said

“But these villages also have a specificity: four villages are enclaves, and four adjoin our villages. Armenia also has their own claims and their views on the borders. We are talking about specific settlements. Their belonging was never subject dispute, thousands of people lived here. Everyone knows: these villages belonged to Azerbaijan in Soviet times, so our requirements are fair, ”Bayramov said.
