Foreign Minister of Turkey discussed topic of expanding alliance with NATO Secretary General

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met on Thursday in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The meeting pre-pre-meeting of the delegations of Turkey, Finland and Sweden at the NATO headquarters on the topic of Stockholm’s application for joining the North Atlantic Alliance.

From the Turkish side, the meeting will be attended by the Turkish Foreign Ministry Hakan Fidan, the head of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Ibrahim Kalyn, chief adviser to the president Akif Chagatai Kylych and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambulance Akchapar.

At the meeting, it is planned to consider the steps taken by Finland and Sweden as part of a tripartite memorandum, in particular, in the context of various aspects of the fight against terrorism.

On the fields of the NATO summit in Madrid on June 29, 2022, on the initiative of the Secretary General of the organization Jens Stoltenberg, a tripartite memorandum was signed between Sweden, Finland and Turkey.

The document provided for the creation of a constant joint mechanism between Ankara, Helsinki and Stockholm. Today’s meeting at the NATO headquarters is the fifth in the framework of this mechanism.
