Foreign Ministry: “Azerbaijan restores its internationally recognized borders”

It is Armenia that violates the internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan. This was told by the head of the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan Leila Abdullayev, commenting on the claims of Armenia on the last tension in the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, as well as the approval of Armenia that Azerbaijan allegedly violated the “sovereign territory” of Armenia.

“These statements are completely unfounded. Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, distributing the application on this occasion, clarified the situation in connection with tension on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. First of all, I want to emphasize that the root cause of border problems is an illegal occupation of the territories of Azerbaijan Armenia to November. 2020. It is Armenia that violates the internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan restores only its internationally recognized borders.

As already mentioned in our official statements, due to the improvement of weather conditions in the liberated areas of Azerbaijan, bordering Armenia, Azerbaijan continues to strengthen the border guard system carried out within its territorial integrity. This process is carried out on the basis of cards defining the line of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which is from both sides.

We always respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally recognized borders. Undoubtedly, mutual respect for these principles, construction on this basis good-neighborly relations and the well-intended launch of the process of delimitation / demarcation of borders – the only way to solve any disputes that may arise. Armenia and Azerbaijan have just come out of the war, so successful demarcation and delimitation of borders play a key role in providing peace and security.

I would also like to emphasize that in recent months between the parties there were disagreements on border issues, all of which were resolved through negotiations between the parties to the trilateral statement. We believe that such disagreements should be solved by political and diplomatic means, “she said.

Commenting on the reaction of some members of the international community to recent border tensions, Abdullayeva noted that the demarcation and delimitation of borders are a bilateral issue, a very complex and technical process.

“Of course, we understand the concern of third countries by the situation in the region aimed at losing tension. We believe that all fundamental causes and problems should be carefully investigated before making any statements on such a sensitive issue.
