France: tension is growing against backdrop of riots and skirmishes from police

In France, riots and violence continue after a policeman shot a 17-year-old teenager in a suburb of Paris on Tuesday during a verification of documents.

STOPS between security forces and protesters grow, demonstrators caused serious damage to police areas, public buildings and vehicles in many cities of the country.

In a number of cities of France, a commandant hour has been introduced, the movement of public transport was suspended. Safety forces use armored vehicles to suppress protests.

The most intense situation remains in large cities, such as: Paris, Marseille and Lyon.

Demonstrators burn cars, school buildings, police sites and state institutions. The police use tough measures to suppress protests.

The government directed additional forces to suppress protests, at least 2,122 protesters were detained.

The authorities report that most of the detained minors. The movement of public transport is suspended in Paris and its environs. In 10 cities of the country, a commandant hour was introduced. The authorities consider the probability of introducing a state of emergency.

Spell of the Office of the Supreme Commissioner of the UN Human Rights Ravin Shamdasani expressed concern about the death of a teenager from a police bullet. According to her, France should seriously deal with deep problems of racism and discrimination in law enforcement agencies.

At the same time, the UN called on the French authorities to investigate cases of excessive force by law enforcement officers in the suppression of protests.

Foreign Ministry, in turn, called the UN accusations of racism and discrimination against the country’s security forces unreasonable. Ultra-right politicians called on the introduction of a state of emergency “due to the threat of a civil war”

French President Emmanuel Macron urged the parents of adolescents not to let their children out of home.

The reason for mass unrest was the murder by the police of 17 -year -old Noel M. in Nanter – a suburbs to the west of Paris.

According to law enforcement officers, who was driving a Mercedes car, the teenager was stopped by a police patrol for violation of the rules and shot down for disobedience to the police.
