France withdrew its ambassador in Azerbaijan for consultations

France recalled to consult her ambassador in Azerbaijan Ann Buion.

The Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained to the decision “Azerbaijan’s one -sided actions that cause damage to relations between the two countries.”

It is reported that French President Emmanuel Macron has already discussed the topic with the head of the diplomatic mission.

The Head of State “expressed regret about the actions of Azerbaijan” and emphasized that “from Baku, he is expected to clarify his intentions.”

Macron said that Paris supports the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, added to the foreign policy.

Tension between the two countries

Since the end of 2023, tension has been observed in the relations of France and Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan criticized the French government for the growth of military supplies to Armenia.

In December 2023, it became known that France will send 50 armored vehicles to Armenia.

In February, the Minister of Defense of France Sebastien Lekornnya, during an official visit to Armenia, declared the readiness of Paris to provide Yerevan with the Air Defense System of Malaya, Middle and Large range.

At the end of last year, Azerbaijan announced two employees of the French Embassy in Baku by persons Non Grata, and in January, a French citizen was arrested on charges of espionage in the country.
