“Frozen Conflict”: Ex-emergency NATO compared war in Ukraine with Korean

The war in Ukraine can last another four to six months and end with a “frozen conflict”, like the results of the Korean war. So believes the former commander in chief of NATO united forces in Europe James Stavridis, writes Business Insider.

“I see that this leads to the end of the Korean war, that is, to a truce, a militarized zone between the two sides, ongoing enmity,” RBC quoted Stavridis.

“None of the parties will be able to withstand much more than this period,” Stavridis emphasized.

Korean war lasted more than three years – from the end of June 1950 to the end of July 1953. Officially, the parties did not sign a peace treaty, the country was divided into the 53rd parallel into the North and South Korea. The first was supported by the USSR and China, the second – the USA, Great Britain, France and other Western countries.

The so -called “special operation” of Russia began on February 24th. In early March, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu said that it will last before the achievements of the goals, recalls RBC as such President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin called the protection of the population of Donbass, “demilitarization” and “denazification” of Ukraine. A month later, in early April, the Kremlin expressed hope for the completion of the special operation “in the foreseeable future.” “We hope that in the coming days, in the foreseeable future, the operation will achieve its goals or end in negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations,” said presidential representative Dmitry Peskov. At the same time, the head of the Russian Guard Viktor Zolotov in mid -March stated that “the special operation is not as fast as we would like.” He explained this situation by the fact that “the Nazis are hiding behind civilians.” In May, the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko voiced a similar thought: “I feel it so that this operation was dragged on.” In the Kremlin, in response, they assured that the “special operation” is going according to plan. Vladimir Putin at the end of June stated that the terms of “special operation” are associated with the intensity of hostilities and the risk of losses, and therefore it would be wrong to adjust the military. The authorities of Ukraine would like to complete the fighting by the end of the year, before the beginning of winter, told the unnamed Reuters interlocutors about the content of President Vladimir Zelensky before the G7 leaders.
