Georgia: Saakashvili supporters protest against torture of ex-president

In the city of Rustavi, supporters of the former President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili came to a demonstration under the walls of the prison, which contains the former head of the state, and demanded its transfer to a foreign clinic for the course of treatment.

“We urge the Georgian leadership to stop the torture (former, ed.) of the president, Saakashvili may not survive in this place. It is urgent to transfer it to a foreign clinic, otherwise it will die,” RIA Novosti quoted the protest campaign quoted.

Previously, the consultation of doctors with a folk defender (ensures the observance of human rights in the country) of Georgia announced the deterioration of the state of Saakashvili, noting that in places of imprisonment they will not be able to provide the necessary medical care. The Saakashvili family also insists on his transfer to a foreign clinic.

In the penitentiary service of Georgia, they consistently refute data on the deterioration of the state of the politician. The department said that Saakashvili is “under round -the -clock intensive medical supervision”.

The “Unified National Movement” founded by the former Georgian leader announced their intention to continue the protest.

According to them, the next demonstration should take place on Friday evening in Batumi.
