Head of General Staff Iraq arrived in Kirkuk covered by protests

The head of the General Staff of the Iraqi Abeumlamir Yarulla arrived in the city of Kirkuk, where the on the eve of protests against the transfer of the building used by the united operational command in Iraq, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (DPK).

This is stated in the message of the Kirkuk administration.

Yarulla held a meeting on security with the participation of military and representatives of local authorities.

The head of the General Staff said that he was in Kirkuk at the direction of Prime Minister Iraq Muhammad Shia As-Sudani “In order to ensure security in the city.”

Information on the results of the meeting has not yet been received.

Earlier in Iraqi Kirkuk, a commandant hour was introduced against the backdrop of protests of a group of supporters of the Democratic Party of Kurdistan (DPP), requiring the opening of the Erbil-Kirkuk highway.

The Kirkuk police called the townspeople not to leave the house at the commandant hour.

Promotion participants demand the return of the DPK building, which was used by the party until 2017. Locals, in particular Arabs and Turkman, opposed this decision and blocked the Erbil-Kirkuk highway.

The forces of the Kurdish militia of the Peshmerge, controlled by the Kurdish regional administration of Iraq (Territory), were transferred to the bases left by the Iraqi army in Kirkuk after the appearance of the deaash terrorist organization in 2014.

In 2017, Iraqi government troops entered Kirkuk, putting an end to the presence of Peshmerge here.
