Head of Ministry of Justice of Turkey: burning of Koran in Sweden – blow to freedom of religion

The Minister of Justice of Turkey Yilmaz Tunch condemned a provocation with the burning of the Holy Koran near the mosque in Stockholm.

“The burning of the Qur’an in Sweden is a blow to the freedom of religion and conscience. Shame that such a campaign takes place in modern Europe,” said the Turkish minister.

He noted that although many countries that have joined the European Convention on Human Rights have taken upon themselves the obligations to protect freedom of thought, conscience and religion, the world witness crimes on the basis of religious hostility in European countries. “We condemn the burning of the Qur’an in Sweden. Countries that have joined the European Convention on Human Rights, must take measures to prevent attacks to freedom of religion. But, unfortunately, we see that everything is wrong in Sweden. Not a single court decision can In this connection, we expect from the Swedish authorities to take the necessary measures to prevent disgrace, including on the eve of the NATO summit. Because there are attacks on the fundamental human rights, ”Tunch emphasized.

The minister gave an example of Turkey, where everyone has the right to say and write everything that he wants, but if these actions are of the nature of support for terrorism, then they go beyond the rights guaranteed by a democratic legal state.

According to him, Türkiye will continue to strengthen the sphere of protection of family values. “We took the necessary steps in terms of constitutional changes in order to protect family values ​​from vicious movements that threaten the foundations of the family. We hope that in the parliament of Turkey we will be able to defend the values ​​of the family and make changes to the Constitution, including in part of the Muslims of headders” – added the minister.
